About Me

Hi! I'm Cassandra Duarte, a Teacher Candidate.
I have always dreamt of becoming a teacher since I was a little girl. I know it sounds cliché, but I promise it’s the truth! I remember setting up a classroom in my bedroom with teddy bears as students, standing at the front of my class, wishing to one day fulfill that role.
I did not just come to this realization on my own. I had a lot of influential role models that played a part in this decisions to become an educator. My grade two teacher was a charismatic, caring, and empathetic human being that was one of my first inspirations on this road to becoming a teacher. My elementary school principal added to the flame with his dedication and passion for his students to become active members in our school and community.
My grade eleven Social Science teachers ignited my passion for History and Psychology, which led to my studies in those fields, earning a Bachelor of Arts with Honours at York University. My background in Psychology also allows me to understand my students through different lenses by recognizing that there are numerous contributing factors to the how a student may behave in the classroom. By understanding the image of the child socially, cognitively, physically, and emotionally, I believe teachers and students can work together on these domains and their effects on students' ability and motivation to learn.
I have volunteered and worked with many organizations, particularly the Columbus Centre Daycare and Summer Camp programs. The past five years I have worked to up the ladder to becoming a Head Counsellor, where I organized program planning for children ages four to twelve years old. This experience has taught me the importance of patience, organization, communication and flexibility with programs are valuable when working with children.
I am now a first-year Teacher Canadite at York University's Catholic Education Centre. My focus is on implementing religious values with curriculum expectations and student character development.
