"Have You Filled a Bucket Today?"

This reward system recognizes when children are abiding by behavioural expectations. This may include respecting peers, the classroom, school, and community. The purpose is to positively reinforce students for their good behaviour and kind actions by receiving five gems in their bucket.

The buckets are placed at an easily accessible spot in the class so when students are prompted by the teacher, they may award themselves by placing gems in their own buckets. I think this is beneficial for children to feel that they are taking ownership of their behaviour. The children are really responsive to this system and feel proud when they receive gems in their buckets. I believe the key is ensuring that children understand the reasons why they are receiving their gems so they may continue this sort of behaviour in the future.
